  2. Heard "Out Come The Freaks" (from , no less) on XM Radio Studio 54, a great song, so I purchased the collection for a good price. I was pleasantly surprised with the level of musicianship on this album (rare in any age)! Recommended! I rate Was Not Was (Out Come the Freaks) Four Stars!/5(6).
  3. Oh, Mr. Friction Lyrics: Drink from bottle when I'm home alone / Spank the kids with a fork / Run the appliances high-speed all day / Switch stations every 5 seconds / We are mostly mute with one.
  4. Bought it back when it first came out in , to me it was a ground breaking album, a big funky sound but slightly off the wall, played it to death back them, and it still sounds great.

  7. Key versions of two such cuts appeared on the original version of the first Was (Not Was) album, referred to as both Was (Not Was) and Out Come the Freaks. "Tell Me That I'm Dreaming" is big-band disco, blistering funk, and a spaghetti Western score at once, with call-and-response vocals that are as nonsensical as they are deeply biting.
  8. Was (Not Was) is good post-disco, with the only problem being that it's not post enough, i.e. it's a bit restrained, it's not far-out enough. For example, "Out Come The Freaks" is straight disco-funk, complete with saxophones and female backing vocals. "Where Did Your Heart Go" is a lush disco ballad (Gloria Gaynor would sell her soul to sing this), whereas "Go Now" is hi-tech rhythm 'n' blues.
